Five Woody Species of the Elwha

2/26/2014

Picture
Adapted from the invaluable resource, Plants of the Pacific Northwest Coast by Pojar and Mackinnon 2004 are the silhouette of five woody species commonly found in the Olympic Peninsula. They are from left to right, Western white pine, Grand fir, Douglas fir, Big leaf maple and Scouler's willow. These species are some of the species that the park has targeted for use in the restoration of the newly exposed substrates post dam removal. Currently just tiny seedlings, it will be wonderful to see them one day as large trees and shrubs.
