I was so inspired by hearing Carson Ellis speak tonight at Third Place Books. An illustrator by trade, she did not come to the occupation right after school. The recipe for her success: drawing daily, an art degree from a state university, graduation without debt, bartending and a little cocktail waitressing thrown in. Although she said she had always dreamed of creating a children’s book, editorial work came first, then illustrating for other peoples’ books, and then, finally the completion of her own book in 2015.
